johnloguk > 21.12.08 - Stark Beauty Unseasonably warm weather yesterday, so I spent most of it outdoors taking photos. Unfortunately Smugmug chose yesterday to keep crashing, so I hardly managed to upload any shots or make many comments. This wasn't the most spectacular sunset shot, it was pretty much at the end of the "show", but I really like the composition in this one. johnloguk > 28.3.09 - Watching Me Watching You I had the kids today and until half an hour ago I'd forgotten that I hadn't taken a Daily yet! I toyed with the idea of going out somewhere for a shot, but a nano second later decided against it :) So you get a silly SP in the bathroom mirror, converted to B&W, solarized and a cyan filter added. It sounds complicated, but it really wasn't. The best thing about the PP is that it covers up the filthy state of the mirror! Joking apart this shot is very "me". Using the door frame as an impromptu tripod because I couldn't be bothered to get it out of the cupboard, and getting much better comp than I could have got from here by using a tripod. I think my tripod might have given up waiting to be used and left me, I've not seen it in quite a while :)
johnloguk > 7.2.09 - Painting Just after I posted my Daily for yesterday I went out to make some deliveries and this happened! johnloguk > 30.6.09 - June As Summer draws on it gets harder to choose the wildflowers for these collages. There are no buttercups, daisies, poppies, "fireweed" and a whole host of beautiful flowers. Hopefully they will get a chance in July's collage, but of course they will be even more flowers battling for the collage by then! But I am now half-way through this calendar project, and November was done last year :) The year so far can be seen here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/8057142_2Tkfp#524865489_gekpy Late Edit; The background image is a tiny plant called "Speedwell" which covers the ground like a blue mist on the nature reserve near my home. The left centre image is a close-up of one of the individual flowers. By the time I produce the final calendar I hope to have a key to all the images featured
johnloguk > 14.4.09 - What's Up Pussycat :) This view of an old Victorian residential street could have been very boring without the cat on the junction box. I've been toying with taking photos here for a while, but I was always lacking some foreground interest. These streets are very steep and very narrow, and not the place to go if your handbrake is a bit suspect! I added my watercolour effect to give some punch as the light was very flat. The sun is desperately trying to break through as I type, so I'm off out for a run in the hope of a nice sunset, catch you later.
johnloguk > 6.5.09 - Watcher on the Wall You've seen this guy before, but not like this. On a sunny day he looks quite friendly, but today this reflection caught my eye as I walked past and I thought he looked pretty menacing. I thought there was an Orwellian quality to this, and the B&W adds to the bleakness. And like those old wartime recruitment posters his eyes seem to follow you around, very "Big Brother", have a nice day :) Late edit; the face is on the wall of an Art Centre
johnloguk > 27.01.10 - Walking Away As I approach the end of my second year on the Dailies I have been considering whether to carry on, or whether to move on to something new. Originally it was only a 12 month project, but I've been having so much fun I decided to keep going. But the second year has been more difficult. I've been so busy that commenting regularly has got harder and harder, and even taking a shot every day has become a chore some days. Yesterday wasn't one of those though. A simple trip into town for the bank turned into a mini photo walk at dusk, my favourite time of day. If I hadn't been on the Dailies I would never have had my camera with me, and I'd have missed this shot. However, all the above is insignificant compared to the elation I felt last night when I was placed 3rd in the Photography Corner Photo of the Year competition! I genuinely didn't expect that, the standard of images was so high. johnloguk > 28.9.08 - The Sky is Bleeding I was surprised to wake up to heavy skies and rain this morning, but by mid-afternoon it was clearing up and I went for a run with my mate Andy. We're training for a 10km trail run round Sherwood Forest, and to be honest we both run more than 10km regularly, but the more you train the easier the run is on the day. But I digress... At about 6.30pm I thought a nice sunset might be developing, but there was no way I thought that it would turn into this! I've seen plenty of great sunsets, but I don't think I've ever seen colour like this before. I had to adjust highlights and shadows a bit to bring out the vapour trails on the right, which had been blown out slightly in camera, but this is very much what I saw.
