I thought there was an Orwellian quality to this, and the B&W adds to the bleakness. johnloguk > 27.01.10 - Walking Away As I approach the end of my second year on the Dailies I have been considering whether to carry on, or whether to move on to something new. Originally it was only a 12 month project, but I've been having so much fun I decided to keep going. But the second year has been more difficult. I've been so busy that commenting regularly has got harder and harder, and even taking a shot every day has become a chore some days. Yesterday wasn't one of those though. A simple trip into town for the bank turned into a mini photo walk at dusk, my favourite time of day. If I hadn't been on the Dailies I would never have had my camera with me, and I'd have missed this shot. However, all the above is insignificant compared to the elation I felt last night when I was placed 3rd in the Photography Corner Photo of the Year competition! I genuinely didn't expect that, the standard of images was so high. johnloguk > 28.9.08 - The Sky is Bleeding I was surprised to wake up to heavy skies and rain this morning, but by mid-afternoon it was clearing up and I went for a run with my mate Andy. We're training for a 10km trail run round Sherwood Forest, and to be honest we both run more than 10km regularly, but the more you train the easier the run is on the day. But I digress... At about 6.30pm I thought a nice sunset might be developing, but there was no way I thought that it would turn into this! I've seen plenty of great sunsets, but I don't think I've ever seen colour like this before. I had to adjust highlights and shadows a bit to bring out the vapour trails on the right, which had been blown out slightly in camera, but this is very much what I saw. johnloguk > 31.3.09 - March The latest in my series of monthly collages. I'm going to try to do a whole year in the same style, using flowers/plants from each month, maybe make a calendar at the end. So far got November, January, February and March. This was the hardest to make because there are now so many flowers to choose from! It didn't help that my computer crashed just as I was saving it, and so I had to do it all over again from scratch! Is it really April tomorrow?
johnloguk > 1.1.09 - Dreamland They say it is good to face your fears, so here I am starting the year off with another SP (even if I am hiding behind some dreamy PP). I had intended taking a drive and finding somewhere a little wild to go for a walk today, but it is cold and very grey, and with fuel the price it is I decided to go for a walk inside my head instead. Huge thanks to MB for sending me this beautiful book of her beloved Colorado, I've been entranced by it since it arrived on my doorstep the other day, and it will be a source of pleasure for years to come. Oh yes, and a very Happy New Year to you all :)
johnloguk > 4.10.09 - Woooooooooooooooooooooooooo More ghostly goings on in the "ghost corridor". I think yesterday's ghost pic had a romantic feel to it, so I tried for a more Gothic feel to this one. I promise to do something different tomorrow :)
johnloguk > 30.5.09 - May Oh boy was it hard to pick the shots for this month's wildflower collage, there are just so many to choose from now, and more by the day. But some just had to be there, the oxide daisy, the wild rose, the buttercups, forget me nots and flag iris. The rhododendrons made the background as they were sufficiently different to most of the rest of the flowers, but I nearly used a bank of oxide daisies and a field of buttercups. This is getting really hard, but I'm enjoying the challenge and will definitely make it through the year, watch this space :) Thanks for the kind words on yesterdays butterfly shot, they are still everywhere today and look so beautiful in the sunshine.
johnloguk > 14.4.09 - What's Up Pussycat :) This view of an old Victorian residential street could have been very boring without the cat on the junction box. I've been toying with taking photos here for a while, but I was always lacking some foreground interest. These streets are very steep and very narrow, and not the place to go if your handbrake is a bit suspect! I added my watercolour effect to give some punch as the light was very flat. The sun is desperately trying to break through as I type, so I'm off out for a run in the hope of a nice sunset, catch you later.
