Sometimes the prettiest flowers have the most horrible names!
johnloguk > 20.8.09 - Pink (Mallow)

This is another shot from yesterday that I've worked on this evening. Today has been another busy day, including one bizarre incident. It was very windy, and as I was driving home this evening a large wheelie bin (trash bin) blew into the road and hit my car. It smashed a wing mirror and caused a few minor bumps and scratches that I could do without right now.
johnloguk > 19.8.09 - Purple

Been a while since I shot any wildflowers, but I do find it therapeutic. There was a time when I thought that if a flower was yellow it must be a buttercup or a dandelion. And if it was purple it was a thistle. Well this isn't a thistle, but I still haven't a clue what it is.

johnloguk > 31.7.09 - Where did July go?

It was only when I started typing the caption for this pic that I realised another month has slipped by. Things have been more than hectic in recent weeks and everything has just blurred together. I should have done a flower collage for July and posted it today, but that passed me by too. Expect one at some point over the weekend :)

This image comes from some photos I took in the old quarry yesterday, but I've been working on it to give a more arty finish. The original, and lots of other pretty piccies can be found here http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5158709_C4LBj#607219335_wdvUb

johnloguk > 15.7.09 - Butterfly Planet

I thought I'd experiment with another planet this evening, so welcome to Butterfly World :)

For those of you new to the Dailies here are instructions on how to make planets http://photojojo.com/content/tutorials/create-your-own-panorama-planets/
johnloguk > 4.7.09 - Going Postal

At the end of one of the most ridiculously stressful weeks in a long time I decided to unwind in photoshop. Tomorrow will tell if it worked!

johnloguk > 24.6.09 - Pyramidal Orchid

No apologies for returning to wildflowers after yesterday's rather stark SP :)

Last year I found my first Bee Orchid, and I've been waiting for them to appear again this year so I can get some better photos. I went in search of them during my lunch hour today, and found a clump of more than a dozen of the little beauties. But then, on my way back home, I came across this much rarer Pyramidal Orchid all on it's own. I've never found one of these before, and apparently they are quite rare. In 1990 they were named "Orchid of the Year" to raise awareness of them. I just think they are beautiful. The flower is only about an inch high, and I was so lucky to walk by it like I did. I have lots more photos to process later, but now I've got to go back to work :(

PS. because of the rarity of this plant the "map this" feature may not be entirely accurate!

Late edit. I've added some more shots from today, including some beautiful Bee Orchids, here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5158709_C4LBj#572968610_i3xPE
johnloguk > 21.6.09 - Shades of Pink

Well today was the longest day of the year, so the days are getting shorter again, but the wildflowers are only getting started. I spotted this patch of Common Mallow (I think that's what they are anyway) on a run, but when I went back with the camera it was getting a bit dark. Luckily this just seemed to make the colours richer.

Usually I use collages when I can't make my mind up between several shots, but this one is because I couldn't get all of this clump in focus at the same time in the low light.

I've got out of my night photography rut, but I seem to be back in a flower one :)
johnloguk > 29.6.08 - A Heath Spotted Orchid. Back to Whisby Nature Park today for my Daily, the same place that Steve and I visited last Thursday. It was still pretty windy, which made wildflower photography entertaining to say the least, but it stayed dry until I got home. I have just created a gallery for other shots from today, and I will add to it on subsequent visits to the Park, you can find it here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5283916_hXRBX/1/321977522_aT4kT#321977522_aT4kT

I don't know enough about wildflowers to know how widespread these beautiful orchids are. I have seen them before, but this is one of the best specimens to date. This is only a bog standard 200mm lens, not a serious macro, so I'm really pleased with the result.

I've not had chance to look through the Dailies yet today, so now I'm going to spend a little while catching up :)
