johnloguk > 16.11.09 - Big Blue

This is another shot from my walk round Whisby Nature Park yesterday afternoon. I gave you a view of the small things yesterday, so here is the bigger picture, it was such a beautiful day.

We had a glorious sunset this evening, with a full arch double rainbow in the sky at the same time. But sadly I was stuck in the middle of a housing estate, and although I tried there was no way I could capture either successfully.

I'm really struggling to comment on the Dailies at the moment, partly through being busy, but also because I'm having problems with Smugmug logging me out every time I change pages again. This is a shame because the quality of pics on the Dailies has been fantastic lately.
johnloguk > For my first contribution to this gallery and community I thought I'd create an homage to one of my heroes, Don McCullin. He earned his reputation as a war photographer, but in recent years has specialised in atmospheric black and white landscapes. He has inspired me with everything he has done, so this seems fitting :)
johnloguk > 29.6.08 - A Heath Spotted Orchid. Back to Whisby Nature Park today for my Daily, the same place that Steve and I visited last Thursday. It was still pretty windy, which made wildflower photography entertaining to say the least, but it stayed dry until I got home. I have just created a gallery for other shots from today, and I will add to it on subsequent visits to the Park, you can find it here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5283916_hXRBX/1/321977522_aT4kT#321977522_aT4kT

I don't know enough about wildflowers to know how widespread these beautiful orchids are. I have seen them before, but this is one of the best specimens to date. This is only a bog standard 200mm lens, not a serious macro, so I'm really pleased with the result.

I've not had chance to look through the Dailies yet today, so now I'm going to spend a little while catching up :)
johnloguk > The Boardwalk at Whisby Nature Park, one of my favourite places. It was a very dull day, so I thought I'd give it this treatment, and I quite like it. I usually take photos looking out over the lake, which is to the left here, but today I was intrigued by the lines and patterns of the boardwalk.
johnloguk > Spring buds at Whisby Nature Park. I like this because it shows the same bud at three stages of opening
johnloguk > Spring blossom in Whisby Nature Park. I'm not sure what the plant is, but the flowers were only about a centimetre across and really delicate
johnloguk > Whisby Nature Park, 31st March. What you don't get with this photo is the noise of the birds. The gulls on the low island were literally fighting with each other, both on the ground and in the air. Ducks were thrashing around in the reeds to the left, and geese were dive bombing each other. Any shots with action in them simply look a mess, so I've opted for this serene scene, even though it was anything but. Spring was definitely in the air!
