johnloguk > 04.02.10 - Grey Daze

This was the view just down the road from me, over Greetwell Hollow Nature Reserve this lunchtime. The snow last night didn't amount to much, but most of today has been miserably cold and foggy.

johnloguk > Wet Cobbles

I've mentioned before how I'm inspired by historical places, and the thought of how many people have walked this way before me. This is one of my favourite places to linger, especially at night, and even more so after rain when the cobbles reflect the lights. The building on the left is known as The Jew's House, and is thought to be the oldest house in Europe still used as a domestic dwelling.

I love doing B&W conversions and adding a sepia photo filter for atmosphere, but I tried something new for this one. I deliberately under-exposed it to exaggerate the lamp and the light on the cobbles. I think it gives more focus to the image, and adds a bit of mystery around the edges.
johnloguk > Time Passes

The last couple of days I've been stuck in a rut of dusk traffic shots, but I find them fun to do and a relatively easy way to get an artsy result. There are all sorts of metaphors here for modern urban life and wanting to slow the world down, or you can just see pretty patterns. If you want to see the results of different shutter speeds from the same position check out my Daily Photo for today here;

johnloguk > 14.10.09 - Under the Bridge

This is a B&W high contrast re-working of a shot from a photo walk I did last night. I know that my images tend to concentrate on the rich colours of the natural world, but I also really enjoy the world of "darker" urban images. I like photos that tell stories, or at least give the viewer clues to make up their own possibilities. I hope this is one of those :)

Some very different images from the walk itself, some familiar, some new, can be found here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/9969682_WjJaL#681164045_bUhJq
johnloguk > 9.2.09 - Snow and Rain

We woke up to fresh snow again this morning, and although it was cold it was quite a pleasant day. That is, until I decided to go out and get a Daily. I had hoped to take some night snow shots around the Cathedral, but it was raining heavily! The last time I took some photos here I got a ghostly biker zooming through the shot, tonight it was a bedraggled walker. Apart from a crop to get rid of boring foreground this is straight out of camera. Despite me standing over it with an umbrella some rain managed to get on the lens, but I think it adds to the watery scene (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

For those that like to keep an eye on our Monday Challenges mine is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7093288_hSxt4#470456288_tRiRP

johnloguk > 14.2.08 - My alternative take on Valentine's Day! Don't worry, this doesn't reflect how I'm feeling today. I was walking back from town earlier, and this image of a guy walking on his own in the rain was too good to miss. Looks like our run of beautiful weather has come to an end at last. The Scots have a perfect word to describe today, "dreich"!
