johnloguk > 11.02.10 - Nature's Palette

This afternoon I had some free time, and rather than sit at home in front of the computer I went for a photo drive to get myself some fresh air and some fresh vistas. There is a full gallery here;

This photo was the culmination of a stunning sunset, and I put it in a frame because I think it deserves it. I lightened the shadows in Elements to reveal some of the details in the frozen fields and the village at the bottom of the hill, otherwise this is SOOC. It was a great viewpoint to watch the sunset unfold, and if you look at X3L you will notice distant Lincoln Cathedral on the horizon at bottom left.

It was an afternoon well spent, but of course the irony is that I've spent all evening on the computer processing the pics :)
johnloguk > 27.7.08 - Classic English Village Church?

Yesterday was really hot and humid, and when you can't eat anymore ice creams or drink anymore ice cold ginger beer where can you go to stay cool? Well I decided to explore this old churchyard and get some shelter under the trees. Skellingthorpe is just outside Lincoln, about 8 miles from my part of town. The church looks very old, but it is deceptive. I've found it very hard to get information on it, but I think it dates from the 1500s, although it was re-built in 1865, and again in 1916 after a fire. It is certainly very photogenic. I have a small gallery of shots here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5548064_iTvPM#339889684_BAiMi

It took me ages to decide on a Daily from these. I did several sepia conversions, some B&Ws and a couple of nice watercolours, but eventually went for this one.
johnloguk > 6.3.08 - An early posting today as I know it is going to be a manic day getting ready for my climbing trip tomorrow. This is a village on the Thunersee, near Interlaken in Switzerland. I've been working on some old transparencies, and this one caught my eye. It is so quaint it is almost over the top, the sort of thing that makes a good jig-saw! This was actually taken from a boat on the lake. At some point I'll set up a Swiss gallery, but it will take some time to clean up the old slides.
johnloguk > A typical village on the Isle of Skye
johnloguk > 13.2.08 - Hazy village sunset. So difficult to choose a DP today. This one got my vote because it was so elusive. Seconds earlier I had been looking into a low sun that bleached everything out completely, some shots of which might show up eslewhere as black and white conversions. Literally seconds after I took this a low bank of cloud descended and the whole view disappeared. Apparently yesterday was the "hottest February 12th ever" in the UK!
