johnloguk > 17.01.10 - Heavy Landing

I don't think these are the best photos that I took today, but there is a funny story behind them and they look pretty cool together like this. I went to a Nature Reserve out of town that I'd not been to for a while, and was enjoying the rapidly changing light and empty spaces. At one point I heard a noise like aircraft behind me, and turned to see 6 swans flying right at me. I ducked and grabbed for my camera, and they seemed to see me at the last minute. They scattered in all directions, some landing in the river while others cleared the trees and went round again. I just managed to get my camera, and fired off a few shots as this guy/girl splashed into the water.

johnloguk > 6.1.10 - Confused :)

I managed to get out in the snow for a walk at lunchtime, and I found these very confused swans. Their usual lake was frozen solid, apart from a small patch of open water in the middle. It looks like someone had thrown a piece of bread onto the ice, and the swans had walked over to investigate. Then the gulls arrived :)

johnloguk > 18.9.09 - Lights, Camera, Action!

This was last night in town. The reason for the title might not be completely obvious, but the coloured lights on the left are a cinema, and I thought it kind of fitted with the floodlit cathedral and reflections in the water too. If you look at XL3 you will see the swans lining up with the people for a movie :)

johnloguk > 13.9.09 - Indian Summer

How much longer can our beautiful run of weather continue?
johnloguk > 13.6.09 - Phoenix from the Ashes

I took this shot down by the Uni this morning. It is a really beautiful day, far too nice to be indoors. Not long ago this land was polluted with heavy metals after years of use as railway sidings. But it is now a haven of peace right in the middle of the City.

 The Tree Challenge...04/20/09
The Challenge:Show us your interpretation of "Tree."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, FotoEffects, Hillary, and myself.
The Result: Spring Trees. I really couldn't decide what to use for this challenge, something arty, abstract? In the end this one grabbed me by the throat and begged to be used. No frames this time, no collages, no vignettes, no text, just huge chunks of Spring colour straight out of camera. There are still plenty of trees round here with little or no leaves on them, but this cherry and the willows along the river are in full effect right now. This was taken on Saturday, so is very similar to my Daily from that day, and it is also the reverse of this view from a couple of weeks ago http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7240041_kZdsG/2/505016407_qqzi2#P-2-15

so I promise I'll leave this view alone for a while now :)

PS. If you use the "map this" feature you can see the trees, and even the swans!
johnloguk > 4.4.09 - Old View, New Growth

OK I've used this view before, but it was such beautiful morning today with brand new growth on the willow tree and bright Spring colours..
johnloguk > 24.1.09 - Cold Harbour

I went down to Burton Waters again this afternoon hoping for a nice sunset, but it slipped slowly away without too much of a show. This is the boardwalk around "Harbour City", a Chinese restaurant built on stilts over the water. There was still ice on the more sheltered parts of the marina, so I don't think many people were going to be dining outside tonight! The black swan from the other day appears to have paired off with one of the locals, and they swam by to say "hello" :)
johnloguk > 26.12.08 - On Golden Pond

I went for a walk this afternoon, it was cold and bright, with that magical low winter light. I've got lots of photos to process this evening, but this one was just begging to be put out as my Daily. I had to crop it because the birds were a long way away even at 200mm, but the water really was shimmering like liquid gold.

Edit - I've now added some more of the photos from today to my Swanholme Lakes Gallery here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5965117_7hV9D#443152033_bW3np
