johnloguk > 6.10.09 - Near Miss

This was taken about an hour ago. I'd run out of tea and decided to go down to the shops. I thought I was going to get very wet at one point, but this nasty looking cloud drifted on by without dropping it's load on us. I took three quick shots and this is the one that showed the cloud best. We had our first rain for ages this morning, but it didn't amount to much, and this afternoon was really mild. Tomorrow is forecast to be wetter, so we'll see if our Indian Summer is over or not.

This was going to be a "before and after" collage, but I did one of those a couple of weeks ago, so this title seemed appropriate. This big storm came through early evening, but left us with some huge double rainbows. The bottom image is a two shot photomerge panorama. I tried to merge some of the rainbow shots to get a more complete view of the double rainbows, but none of them worked well enough to use.

Thanks for your comments on my wildflowers the last couple of days, and your kind words following my bizarre flying wheelie bin incident yesterday :)
johnloguk > 2.8.09 - After the Storm (2 shot photomerge panorama)

Well it rained, and rained, and rained, but then this happened! I could have taken a similar shot from my window, the whole sky was a mass of changing colour, but I'm glad I went for a drive to get this view. It is only a mile away, if that, the Cathedral is on the left and the small country lane on the right. The lane was flooded in places, and that gave a very different perspective on the sunset, as you can see here http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#608061724_cB9cS

This was taken from almost exactly the same spot as this http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7240041_kZdsG#604566139_X7ehW What a difference a few days make!

I was driving down a small lane just outside town this afternoon when I had to stop and try to capture this view. The sky looks so threatening, but so far has produced little rain, and small shafts of light were illuminating the wheat. I'm really happy how this has turned out as a photo, and it is also very symbolic of the next few weeks for me. There are a lot of storms for me to ride out, wish me luck guys :)

Apologies yet again for my rather patchy commenting recently. Most of my spare time is being spent trying to earn money in these difficult days, but I still try to look in and give a few thumbs up.

Late Edit; this is pretty much straight out of camera, just an unsharp mask applied and some specks on the sensor cloned out.
johnloguk > 19.5.09 - Here Comes Trouble

We've had a few days of skies like these, but this is the first time I've had chance to really get a good shot of one. This particular storm missed us, but several others gave us a good soaking this afternoon.

It has taken me over an hour to process and load this image, I've never known so many frustrating error messages in such a short time, so now I'm going to avoid the PC for a while and get my sanity back! Hope to catch you all later.
johnloguk > 2.9.08 - Failing to Capture the Magic :(

Another bizarre day of weather. Bright, warm and sunny this morning. Wild and wet this afternoon, culminating in the mother of all thunderstorms. Muggins was out in most of it, snuggled up in my goretex shell as though I was in some distant wild place, not the suburbs of Lincoln. Then, just before sunset the storm blew away to the East and we got this huge rainbow. I parked the car, there it is in the photo, and ran out into the rain firing off shots as I went. I took about 20 in just over a minute, no time to try and deal with the extreme lighting. It was almost dark to the left under the remaining storm clouds, and bright sunshine to the right. This is the best compromise that I could manage, if only I knew the witchery that is HDR :)

I had a play with colour curves again when I got home, and I do like this surreal treatment here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4328734_9ZqLR#364363476_TeUKf In many ways this is closer to what I saw with my eyes, or what I thought I saw anyway, but it had been a long hard day.
johnloguk > Fun with rainbows. We had a huge storm just before sunset this evening, thunder, lightning, the whole shebbang. Then as the storm moved away to the East we were treated to a huge rainbow. I struggled to deal with the extreme light conditions, very dark to the left and very bright to the right, so I had a play with colour curves later and came up with this. I need to get to grips with HDR I reckon :) This is an alternative to my Daily Photo of 2.9.08
johnloguk > 15.8.08 - Rain Rain Go Away, Come Again Another Day.....

Today has been a beautiful day, the first for ages when it hasn't rained, and guess who was working the whole time and didn't even get his camera out of his bag :(

I took this last night on the way home from the fish 'n' chip shop, but only got to process it tonight. It is another view across the Nature Reserve, looking south to a storm that narrowly missed us. Yesterday was another day of big storms, some great rainbows, but I was never in the right place at the right time for photos until the chip shop trip. The sun was just breaking through the clouds over my right shoulder, and I love the way it is picking out the wisps below the big clouds, and the rain in the distance. If you look closely you can just see three people going for a walk, and the village of Washingborough getting a thorough "washing" from the rain.

Oh yes, the title of this shot is because I've just seen the weather forecast for the weekend, and it is rain again, bugger!

I doubt if I'll catch up with everyone else's Dailies today, I'm going to have an early night to try and catch up with all the sleep the Olympics have deprived me of this week. I need to be fully fit to run the 100m final from the safety of my armchair, Usain Bolt is gonna take some beating :)
