johnloguk > 15.02.10 - Here Comes the Sun

You'd never guess that I've been experimenting for the current DGrin challenge "silhouettes" would you? A lot more work is needed, but the sunburst came out quite nicely with this one.
johnloguk > 07.02.10 - Only Me

As a general rule, if I post an SP as a Daily it is a sign that I've hardly had time to draw breath all day, and today is no exception. I've had the twins today, which is always the highlight of my week, but they do keep me on my toes. There was no indoor camping this week, but lots of craft type stuff and a car load of things to go back to Mummy. I also need to practice on Mario Kart before next time too, because defeat isn't good for a competitive Dad like me ;)

It's been a while since I've done any selective colour, and this shot lent itself to that.

For those that asked about the tree yesterday, I think it is a Horse Chestnut
johnloguk > 28.01.10 - Mistaken Identity?

This won't make sense to anyone that hasn't seen the pic April Hoffman posted on her Facebook page earlier this evening. It came out of pure desperation when I realised I hadn't taken a Daily yet. Thanks for the inspiration, and the laugh, April :)

Thanks also for all the kind words on my sepia riverside scene today. The jury is still out on whether to carry on with the Dailies into a 3rd year or not, but it will be hard to stop all this fun.
johnloguk > 18.01.10 - I Don't (usually) Like Mondays

Mondays are always busy and long, today was no exception. But I got more done than I expected and had a great game of squash this evening. There is nothing better than double session of squash to get rid of all that pent up adrenaline, so this is a little bit happier than my last SP!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my swan triptych, I just wish I could have got sound to go with the pics :)
johnloguk > 9.1.10 - Why Me?

Some days I think I have a sticker on my forehead that says "it's OK, you can lie to me as much as you like and I'll just suck it up". I am thoroughly sick of people promising to do things but not delivering, arranging to be in for a meeting and then not bothering to turn up, agreeing to pay what they owe on a certain day but then finding yet another excuse for not doing..... I think you get my drift, it has been another of those weeks. I try to do the right thing, but it is clear that many other people have only one priority, themselves, and I find that unacceptable I'm afraid.
johnloguk > 7.1.10 - Not a Pretty Sight ;)

Well my day started badly when the car refused to start again. I had hoped that the problems were over, but I was too optimistic. Anyway, it was another beautiful bright but cold day, and I always try to put a positive spin on things. So when I had to go on the long trek round my customers I decided to take the scenic route wherever possible. The best bits were criss-crossing the old quarry and nature reserve. I took lots of nice shots, but for some reason that escapes me I have chosen this one as my Daily! Bright sun is the bane of wedding photographers, just one of many reasons why I don't do them, all those people with gritted teeth squinting into the light just like this.

Having had my day in the sun I'm now headed back out into the freezing dark night for a couple of hours, which isn't going to be quite so much fun :(
johnloguk > 23.12.09 - Filtered

There are two ways you can look at this triptych. Possibly it is a comment on how we all view the world differently, we filter it through our values and beliefs, and it is very rare that any two people see things exactly the same way. Or, it might just be one of those desperation Dailies, where you find yourself staring into the mirror, thinking, what on earth am I going to shoot today, surely not another SP?

The reality is probably a bit of both. I really was staring into the mirror thinking just that. I fired off a few shots, then sat staring at them on the PC, wondering what I could do to make them look different to all the other self portraits I've done when I've been desperate for a Daily. The concept started to form in my head, so maybe it is a little bit more than just another SP in the mirror :)

I've really struggled to keep up with the Dailies again lately, so comments from me have been few and far between. I've got a few days off now over Christmas, so if I can drag myself away from the food and drink I hope to see more of you all.
johnloguk > 18.12.09 - Out of Body Experience!

OK so this is just a variation on my Daily from Tuesday, but it is born out of pure frustration. Friday is always my busiest day of the week, and it coincided with the coldest day of the year and our first proper snow fall. None of that is a problem for a cold and snow lover like me, but when my car decides not to start, and I have 40 deliveries to make, my head nearly exploded. In the end I made them on foot this evening, or most of them anyway, but it took a very long time and most of my energy. Luckily I'd prepared curried meatballs earlier and just had to pop them in the oven when I got back home.

Hopefully my car will work tomorrow and I'll be able to catch up with everything.

If anyone fancies trying this shot here is the techie info, it couldn't be easier. I put the camera on the kitchen work top, set the auto timer, on shutter priority for 6 seconds. I sat in the chair, counted to three once the shutter clicked, then got up and stood behind "myself" for the rest of the exposure.
