johnloguk > 15.9.09 - The Kite

I was very lucky this evening. I went to see a customer, but I was early and she was "having her hair done"! So I had some time to kill. I had a drive round looking for photo opportunities, and found some guys flying a large paraglider style kite. It was almost impossible to photograph, I just couldn't get in the right position. But as I was trying the sun went behind a cloud and this happened. So I quickly pulled back from the kite and fired off a few shots before the sun re-appeared. I increased the contrast slightly to accentuate the rays without making it look unreal.

I've been really busy again the last couple of days and only been able to make a few brief comments, so thanks to everyone who has taken the time to comment on my photos.
johnloguk > 2.7.09 - Global Warming
johnloguk > Sunset over Cottam power station from Lincoln, over 15 miles away.
johnloguk > 28.4.08 - Elemental Power. It's been a long time since I had a sunset as my DP, but it is weird how similar this one is to the last one. I've substituted a distant power station for the Cathedral, but the golden drama in the sky is almost identical. It has been another day of heavy April showers, and these always seem to give great sunsets. It was very difficult to get the lighting in this image anything like the real thing, the contrast between light and shade was so huge, but I'm happy with this now. The power station is about 15 miles away, and it was under a big storm cloud making it completely dark. There was rain between me and it, but beyond the station was brilliant sunshine. When you compare the power of humans in the form of the power station, with the power of nature in the form of sunshine and storms, there is only one winner!
johnloguk > Apocalypse part 2! A few weeks ago I gave this power station the "end of the world treatment" and it looked quite cool. I took this one today, from over 15 miles away, and thought I'd try again. I like the contrasts of the town, pastoral countryside, then all hell broke loose on the horizon. I've nothing against power stations, honest!
johnloguk > 5.2.08 - And now for something completely different! I had to travel out of town today to a meeting that I expected to be very difficult. So it was quite appropriate when I crested a hill to see a power station belching smoke into a leaden sky, all very foreboding looking. It is actually a fairly efficient gas powered station, but today it looked like an old East European heavy metals plant. I used blatant photoshopping to push the effect even deeper into the surreal, and I am pleasantly surprised with the result. The traditional stone church tower adds another contrasting dimension . Oh, the meeting was fine in the end, I got all worked up for nothing!
