johnloguk > 3.03.10 - Flying

Another view and treatment of the "Empowerment" Millennium sculpture in town. I'm thinking of using this sculpture for the current DGrin Challenge "Together or Apart", but I just can't decide quite how to shoot it.
johnloguk > 15.02.10 - Here Comes the Sun

You'd never guess that I've been experimenting for the current DGrin challenge "silhouettes" would you? A lot more work is needed, but the sunburst came out quite nicely with this one.
johnloguk > Curves

Looking back, most of my semi-abstract images have been full of straight lines, so when I saw this wooden bench down at the marina I knew I had to do something with it.

Some of you might be interested in this link to an audio slideshow of Don McCullin's work as a war photographer. McCullin is one of my favourite photographers, and although he became famous through his war images, I have been at least as inspired by his later monochrome landscapes.

johnloguk > Collision Course

I took this shot at dusk this afternoon, underneath the "where have you been?" bridge that I've used before in this community. I always think it suits a gritty B&W treatment, and I like the way the image begs for a narrative to go with it.
johnloguk > Lines and Squares at Lincoln University

Just playing around with shapes this evening. I thought this was a different style for me.
johnloguk > Walk on by......

Something a bit different from me today. I was at a local Nature Reserve this afternoon taking landscapes, and trying to catch some very elusive wildfowl, and then I spotted this couple on the opposite bank of the river. I thought they'd look good if I could silhouette them against the sky, but there were too many cables and trees cluttering the background. So I ran right down to the water's edge and crouched as low as I possibly could, and bingo! The original was almost monochrome anyway, but I did a B&W conversion, played in levels and contrast to darken it up, added a vignette, and it looks a lot moodier than it actually was. Luckily they were lost in conversation and didn't notice me, or they might have thought I'd gone mad!
johnloguk > 9.1.10 - Why Me?

Some days I think I have a sticker on my forehead that says "it's OK, you can lie to me as much as you like and I'll just suck it up". I am thoroughly sick of people promising to do things but not delivering, arranging to be in for a meeting and then not bothering to turn up, agreeing to pay what they owe on a certain day but then finding yet another excuse for not doing..... I think you get my drift, it has been another of those weeks. I try to do the right thing, but it is clear that many other people have only one priority, themselves, and I find that unacceptable I'm afraid.
johnloguk > 29.12.09 - The Dark Night ;)

Been a long time since I did a straight B&W for my Daily, but it suits my mood today. I must have been the only person paying money in, everyone else seemed to be spending it as fast as they could. It has also warmed up a bit, but I much prefer -2C and snow to +3C and drizzle, especially when I'm still trying to shake off my bug. Everything looked, and felt, very grey and depressing today, but things brightened up a bit after dark when the lights came on.

If you want a more lighthearted shot for today, which came from the same original image as this one, then try here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/INSPIRATION/10329875_Lpojy#752425468_ZmGgn
johnloguk > 5.12.09 - Gothic

Another shot from Thursday at the Christmas Market. I had plans to go up there again today, but despite the sunshine I couldn't persuade the kids to brave the crowds, so I decided to work on this instead. I went for a different feel to yesterday's Daily. The guy's silhouette on the left was begging for the "Van Helsing" treatment, so I went for a darker feel in more ways than one.

Thanks for the kind words about my cracked rib. It will be tested by an early morning shoot tomorrow morning for the Tourist Board, wish me luck :)
