My second year on the Dailies started on 1.2.09, if it is half as much fun as the first year then it will be worth doing. I will always try to take a photo every day, but there will be times when that isn't possible, so I might have to take the odd trip into the archives. I will also try and remember to map each photo, so if you want to see where an image comes from then use the "map this" feature.
My first year gallery can be seen here;

9.4.09 - Hanging on the Telephone
OK you need to read the whole of this caption to get the point of this shot, so take a deep breath and dive right in :)
Firstly, these iconic red phone boxes are becoming and endangered species. Most have been replaced with more practical, but boring, modern designs. A few remain in tourists traps like the area around Lincoln Cathedral and Castle, but even these are hardly used anymore in the age of the mobile phone.
But the really interesting thing about this particular phone is that it sits on the site that was used for public hangings in Lincoln for hundreds of years. There is a pub called "The Strugglers" just to the right, you can imagine how it got it's name. Eventually the powers that be decided that hanging people on street corners was too awful for popular sensitivities, so they moved them inside the Castle just down the road. The last public hanging in Lincoln took place in 1868, the same year that Parliament outlawed the practice. But what really worries me is the number of people who would turn up if they started the whole bloody thing again!
If you use the "map this" feature you can see the actual phone box!!!
